DO WE ASK OUR PATIENTS ABOUT SEX?
Abstract
Introduction: Assuming that large number of physicians are uncomfortable discussing matters of sexuality with their patients we analyzed if data of sexual life were obtained in history of disease.
Methodology: I analyzed retrospectively one-degree cluster sample of patients treated in the Psychiatric Clinic in Tuzla at the first two months in 2008th.
Results: Results confirm assumption. Data on sexual life were found in only 2 of 120 analyzed medical histories (1.66%).
Discussion: Widespread impression is that, because of their illness, patients have no sex life. However this subject is in fact of great importance to them. Problem is that we don’t ask.
