Abstract

At daily work on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit ultrasound examination has become an indispensable diagnostic procedure. During the examination, it does not exist ionizing radiation, so that the proces could be repeated several times. With the ultrasound examination of the preterm and term sick child we can follow the different types of diseases and congenital and acquired malformations of the brain, lung, heart, abdominal organs, testis, and hips. Penetration of the ultrasounds waves interferes with the air and gases, so that ultrasound is not an ideal imaging technique for intestines or for organs that intestines block. Learning about the benfits of ultrasound, with the advancement of technology that has anabled the creation of new and better appliances, with special training of doctors, ultrasound is becoming the method of choice for the detection of various pathological changes of internal organs in child.
