SIGNIFICANCE OF BLOOD TEST IN PATIENTS WITH CORROSIVE INJURY OF AERODIGESTIVE TRACT
Introduction: Corrosive injury of aero-digestive tract is serious medical problem. Most frequent is poisoning with acetic acid. Importance is stressed on esophageal injuries. We compared relationship of blood test values and degree of esophageal injury .Aim: Aim of study was to find indicative blood tests for estimation of severity of esophageal injury. Patients and methods: This study included 136 patients with established diagnosis of aero-digestive tract corrosive injury. We took patient’s medical history and performed oropharyngoscopy, indirect laryngoscopy and rigid esophagoscopy together with blood tests. Results: In this study we have the prevalence of children. Females were predominant category. Blood sedimentation rate and Uric acid have no statistical significance for severity of esophageal injury. Total and Direct Bilirubin with AST and ALT are highly elevated in severe injuries of esophagus (p <0.01). Conclusions: We found white blood cell count, bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase indicative for prediction of esophageal injury severity.
